The Frankfort Independent Schools Board of Education approved several staff groups' certified and classified salary schedules for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

All board members were present and all votes were unanimous during the Tuesday night meeting. Certified employees have a teaching degree, while classified employees do not.

The certified administrative salary supplement included a $3,000 raise for the director of special education and student services position for a total stipend of $14,000 next year and creation of a $3,000 stipend for the position of finance officer. Both Frankfort High School and Second Street School principals will receive an extra $1,000 for a total stipend of $19,000.

The district organizational chart also removed the position of director of district wide programs, which had a stipend of $15,000 in 2018-19. This position was also removed from the extended day schedule, which was the only change to that schedule. Extended day schedules typically are for employees who work when school is not in session.

The board also approved the certified salary schedule, which includes teachers. A teacher with a bachelor's degree, or a Rank III teacher, and no experience will have a salary of $36,938 in the next fiscal year, according to the schedule. According to the schedule, a teacher with a master's degree and 30 more credit hours, or a Rank I teacher, and five years of experience will have a salary of $47,307. These salaries did not increase or decrease from 2018-2019.

The additional services schedule removes the rate of pay for athletic gate keeper/secretary/ticket/other from both certified and classified groups.

The Board Paid Sponsors schedule from this year will not change. That schedule includes a rate of pay for positions like band director and chorus director, which the schools share.

The classified extended days reduced the bus driver trainer position from 15 to five days and created 55 days of work for the payroll clerk, a position that the board approved in Tuesday's meeting. The board approved the classified employee salary schedule, which is based on years of experience, and includes positions such as cafeteria worker, bus driver or custodian. The board also approved the substitute salary schedule for next year.

The board tabled its vote on activities and athletic stipends for the next fiscal year for both SSS and FHS, as it wanted more information about children in those programs and duration of those programs from SSS.

The board approved three contracts: a certified trainer agreement with the University of Kentucky, the Hands on Therapy contract, which provides occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech services to students, and a groundskeeping contract for the next fiscal year.

The Tuesday meeting was moved from the normal 6 p.m. slot to 7 p.m. so board members could attend a staff appreciation dinner. The next FIS board meeting will be on Monday, June 10, at 6 p.m. at central office.
