Twenty-three Kentucky State University student-athletes achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the 2019 spring semester as the department posted a GPA of 2.73.

Six football student-athletes — Bryshaun Brown, Tommy Craig, Colin Dwenger, Kenneth Jorgenson, Eroz Zuniga and Dakota Waldridge — all achieved the feat as football led the athletic department. Softball, with Katie Barter, Paola Flores, Olivia Saylor and Jackie Zubiate, and women’s basketball, with Jessie Kee, Brooke Wallace, Wynter Webb and Amani Williams, each had four student-athletes to earn the distinguished GPA.

The other student-athletes to record 4.0 GPA over the spring semester were Sasha Bills (volleyball), John Michael Etheridge (baseball), Chelsey Ford (track & field), Brionna Greer (track & field), Aram Kumar (baseball), Gernee Lockhart (cross country), Makayla Martin (volleyball), Tyler Simmons (cheerleading) and Trey Walker (baseball).

Eight student-athletes — Etheridge, Flores, Greer, Kee, Saylor and Williams — recorded 4.0 grade point averages for the entire 2019-20 academic year.

Boosted by 11 of the 13 members achieving at least a 3.0 GPA, the women's basketball team recorded the department's highest grade point average of 3.522, which is up from 3.496 in the fall semester. The men's golf team recorded a 3.222 GPA for the highest male team GPA. Four other teams — softball, volleyball, women's cross country and women's track and field — posted team GPAs of at least 3.0.
