Mercer County's football team used a big second quarter to take control against Western Hills Friday in Harrodsburg.

The Titans scored 23 points in the second quarter on their way to a 44-6 win over WHHS.

The game was the district opener for the Wolverines, who are now 2-4.

The Titans led just 7-0 after the first quarter and also scored seven points in both the third and fourth quarters.

The Wolverines' touchdown came on the opening drive of the second half on a pass from Dylan Engler to Demetrius Britt. The point-after kick was blocked.

Mercer County improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the district, having defeated Christian Academy of Louisville 45-42 the previous week.

The Titans are ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 3A in the latest Associated Press poll.

WHHS plays at home Friday, hosting district opponent Henry County at 7:30 p.m.
