Frankfort Elks Lodge 530 named Danny Bryant, owner of Bryant's Pic-Pac Supermarket, its Citizen of the Year during a lodge meeting on June 17.
During the award presentation, Exalted Ruler John Snyder said that throughout the years, the Elks have recognized teachers, politicians and business people, all of whom have one thing in common: They have made the community a better place.
Snyder said Bryant was no exception.
“Danny Bryant does more than run a business,” Snyder said. “He serves a community.”
Snyder spoke about Bryant‘s donating to local charities and feeding generations of Frankfort High School students at lunch and after school.
“Most importantly,” Snyder said, “he serves an oasis in a part of town that would otherwise be a food desert.”
During the presentation, Snyder also spoke about Bryant’s announcement that he would retire last year.
In January 2018, Bryant announced the supermarket would close by March 31, 2018. However, thanks to an outpouring of community support and reduced expenses, Bryant decided the store could continue serving downtown and South Frankfort workers and residents like it had since 1953.
“Frankfort showed him in no uncertain terms that it cares for him and considers him a valuable member of the community,” Snyder said.
