The Frankfort Audubon Society will host a bird walk from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Pfeiffer State Fish Hatchery. Participants should meet at 9 a.m. at the gate of the hatchery (do not block the gate). Take U.S. 127, 7.7 miles north of Cove Spring Park and turn right onto Highway 2919. The hatchery is 1.8 miles down Highway 2919 on the right. Go to https://goo.gl/maps/Xonz3f4QRtE7Wtew9 for directions.
The surrounding hills can generate thermals for hawks and vultures and bald eagles. Participants should also see flycatchers, indigo buntings, other songbirds and red-headed woodpeckers.
The walk will be on flat ground around ponds and along the edge of the Elkhorn Creek. The event is free and open to the public. Bring binoculars if you have them. There will be a few loaner pairs.
