Summer Reading has started and the library has a full schedule of activities. If you have not signed up please do so by going to www.pspl.org or stop by the library. There are special events, craft workshops, book discussions, games, music and much more for all ages this summer.
6 p.m. Join best-selling author Silas House as he sits down to discuss the paperback release of his book “Southernmost” and answers questions from the audience. House will also discuss his documentary film, hillbilly, which traces the evolution of the hillbilly stereotype in media and culture and seeks to expand understanding of Appalachia. A signing will follow with copies of the book available for purchase from Poor Richard’s Books. This event will be held in the River Room.
2 p.m. Crafternoon with Kristin. Spend the afternoon crafting with Kristin as you punch holes to create your own spectacular dot artwork. Come anytime between 2-4 p.m. to the River Room for a relaxing time. Adults, please register online or by calling the library.
6:30 p.m. In celebration of Pride month, join us for a performance by Company Q, a social justice theatre troupe for young people based out of Lexington that focuses on queer issues. This event will be held in the River Room. All are welcome!
7 p.m. Experience a night at Kentucky State University’s farm that includes star activities, a solar system created by the Franklin County Farmer’s Market, and a movie marathon. All ages are welcome.
NOTE: This event will be held at the Harold R. Benson Research and Demonstration Farm, 1525 Mills Lane.
11 a.m. Spin Like an Astronaut! Test your mettle in the SPINtron from Newton’s Attic. Stop by the River Room anytime between 11am and 3pm to participate. All ages are welcome to spin.
